160º LED Modules: The Optimal Beam Angle for Large Channel Letters and Deep Light Boxes

160º LED modules are the preferred technical solution for professional signage where the light box or channel letter depth exceeds 60 mm. Their wide beam prevents hotspots on the acrylic front and ensures uniform luminosity in large backlit letters, advertising light boxes and retail façades.

All our modules feature an isolated driver, flame-retardant ABS UL94 V-0 housing, real IP67 protection and brand chips (Samsung/Osram/Bridgelux) with efficiency up to 170 lm/W. Available in 12V and 24V, cool/neutral/warm white, analog RGB and adjustable CCT.

When should I choose a 160º beam angle over 170º?

160º is optimal for light boxes and channel letters with depth between 60 and 120 mm. For depths over 100 mm and XL light boxes, 170º gives slightly better coverage. Below 60 mm, 160º causes unnecessary dispersion; use 120º instead.

What is the minimum distance from module to front acrylic?

We recommend a minimum 60 mm gap between module and acrylic front to avoid visible hotspots. For standard 3 mm opal acrylics, the ideal distance is 80-100 mm.

What is the optimal spacing between 160º modules?
